Michigan JHI firm celebrates 35 years of growth
— ranked 19th in Crains Business
October 10, 2007 (TORONTO) – Edwards, Ellis, Stanley, Koshiw, Armstrong, Bowren & Company, P.C. has grown by leaps and bounds since the firm opened as a two-man operation in downtown Detroit on October 1, 1972.
Celebrating 35 years in business, the firm is ranked as the 19th largest certified public accounting firm in Michigan in Crains Business (Jan.15, 2007). This ranking includes national and regional firms with locations in Michigan.
Rick Edwards and James Thompson, now retired, started the firm as Thompson & Edwards after they had worked together at Arthur Young. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary, Rick Edwards, Managing Partner, reflected back on the changes and growth in the firm. “In the beginning, we had no other employees,” he recalled. “Within a year or so, we hired on two part-time employees. Now the firm employs approximately 25 people. We have 14 CPAs, eight staff accountants and three clerical personnel between our two offices – one in Troy, Michigan and the other in Ann Arbor.”
Many area residents are familiar with the firm through partner Jeffrey Ellis guest appearances on local radio programs. Jeffrey has discussed tax planning changes in tax laws and answered tax questions from callers as a guest on radio programs such as Your Money and Money Talk.
The firm, including partners Jeffrey Ellis, Art Stanley, Sophie Koshiw, Dave Armstrong and Eric Bowren, as well as Rick, celebrated during a special luncheon on October 1.
Edwards, Ellis, Stanley, Koshiw, Armstrong, Bowren & Company, P.C. is a member of JHI Region of the Americas.
