The key to a good meeting is that it is seamless, effective and directed. As with all things, a good facilitator makes it look effortless and easy. Accountants and financial advisers run meetings all the time. Difficult subject matter and multiple participants call for skills that extend those we use in our everyday practice. These are some of the ideas that will be explored at the Mastering Facilitation Workshop during the Asia-Pacific Annual Conference at the Sea World Resort on the beautiful Gold Coast of Australia. The workshop, running July 24-26, will be the focal point of the conference. What is this workshop about? The workshop is designed to provide accounting professionals with key skills and tools to run difficult meetings with confidence. This includes becoming aware of the pitfalls, having a preparation structure, a clear way of preparing the teams and awareness of how to deal with multiple hats – adviser and facilitator – at the same meeting. How will it be run? This will be an interactive workshop with multi-media support. There will be opportunities for practice with coaching and group feedback. This will not be compulsory and those who prefer to watch by learning will have that opportunity as well. Who is running it? What experience do they have with our world?
